Coaching for staff and faculty

Enhance your experience as a UBC employee through coaching. Grow professionally and personally through the coaching opportunities available.  

Coaching Services offers:
•    one-on-one coaching, 
•    professional development opportunities to be more coach-like in your conversations, and
•    opportunities to become a certified coach. 

Coaching accelerates results. It's a driver for organizational excellence. The Focus on People 2025 framework identifies Coaching as an integral component in supporting your career growth. 

One-on-one Coaching

Thanks to a dedicated community of over 100 trained and certified coaches, UBC is able to offer a limited number of one-on-one coaching sessions as a benefit (free) to all regular paid faculty and staff.

The goal of Coaching at UBC is to help you develop and enhance your experience at UBC. 

Focus and advance your personal or professional goals and development through coaching. Explore ideas and engage in candid dialogue in a confidential setting. People who engage in coaching report enhanced results in achieving goals, productivity, resilience, professional growth and improved relationships.

Register for Coaching with a Certified Coach

If you're a regular paid faculty or staff, you can register for coaching. To register, access the portal below with your campus-wide login (CWL). Once you are in the portal, create an account. Then, review coach biographies to select your top choices (up to 3), with whom you will set up interviews to determine the best fit.

About the Coaching Sessions

All our coaches are professionally trained and hold credentials from the International Coaching Federation. Typically, coaching engagements are for up to 6 sessions that are 45-60 minutes long and take place about every 2-3 weeks. These sessions are confidential. 

The topics you can bring to these sessions are broad, and may include:
•    leading others, 
•    leading teams,
•    career planning,
•    addressing a dilemma your facing,
•    strategy and planning, 
•    change and transition, and
•    resiliency.

Learn and practice a coach approach

It can be as simple as asking a question to encourage thinking, rather than directing or advising how a task should be done. In an effort to embed this inquiry-based approach at UBC, Coaching Services is developing course offerings in informational and fundamental coaching skills, soon to be available in the Workplace Learning Ecosystem.

Become a certified coach

UBC has built an expertise in coaching over the years since the program was established in 2003. We have over 100 certified coaches on our roster who provide professional one-on-one, group, and team coaching to over 200 faculty and staff each year.

Become a UBC associate coach

If you would like to find out more information on volunteering to be a UBC associate coach with Coaching Services, please complete an expression of interest form. The deadline for intake is August 31 each year.

You may submit forms after the deadline but they will not be reviewed until the next intake process the following Fall.
